What should I do if I think my child has SEND?

SEN Offer

What should I do if I think my child has SEND?

If you have any concerns you need to come and talk to us.  Contact your class teacher by asking for a chat, emailing or a phone call.  If you feel that you need more information, contact the school SENCO.  We pride ourselves on building positive relationships with parents, aiming to be open and honest, and hope that parents/carers are able to do the same as us.

At our schools we acknowledge the importance of the early identification of Special Educational Needs, as outlined in the SEN Code of Practice 2014.

  • In the autumn term that the pupils enter Early Years Foundation Stage, we identify any possible language difficulties by administering the British Picture Vocabulary Scale (BPVS) check, which is a measure of receptive language. Following low scores, further screening assessment will be carried out through the Renfrew check and Bury Infant Check (BIC) the following term.
  • Children who are experiencing difficulties are identified through discussion with parents/carers, observations and discussions with colleagues.
