National Curriculum 2014

As you may already know, there has been a new National Curriculum (NC) delivered in primary schools since September 2014. This new curriculum provides challenging aspirations for children between the ages of 5 and 11 years.

The National Curriculum is structured within three milestones for development: end of KS1, end of Year 4 and end of Y6. The children are taught key skills and knowledge with the aim of achieving the expectations for the end of these milestones.

In English and Maths there have been significant changes which highlight the expected skills and knowledge to be acquired in each year group. Further information can be found here. https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/national-curriculum

The new NC provides detailed requirements that are statutory and must be taught within each Key Stage. However, there are also certain flexibilities which allow us to identify important curriculum experiences which are most relevant to the children and community in which we serve.

The curriculum we provide aims to promote learning opportunities for all children and includes the formal requirements of the National Curriculum, alongside a range of extra-curricular activities to enrich the experiences of the children. We recognise that each child is an individual, and so promote learning and personal growth through the implementation of a range of teaching and learning styles and strategies. We are really happy with the curriculum provision on offer to our children and believe it embraces a much richer range of experiences than the statutory entitlement.

For further information see the page 'our school curriculum', which details more specifically the provision we offer to our children.
