Bentley Weekly Update 06.10.17

African Adventure – As we write this, the children in Adders class are on their way back from an exciting, fun-filled week at African Adventure. Sadly, this will be the last time that as a school we will be going to this particular venue and we have very fond and happy memories of our adventures there over the years. You can see what the pupils have been up to by looking at the blog on the school website. There are some great pictures and funny tales.

Football - Mrs North has been working closely with sports crew and our new coach Mr Leroux to begin football at lunchtimes for the new term. We now have a new structure, 3 vs 3, and the children have set their teams for the half term. Each team will have the opportunity to play 2 matches during the lunchtime. Children from the sports crew will manage the refereeing on the pitch, giving the children the responsibility to manage the game themselves. They have very clear rules to follow. This will give all of the children the opportunity to play football in a manageable, productive and safe way.

Damaged Property – On Thursday 21st September, Mr Leroux (our sports coach) came out of school to find that his motorbike had been damaged quite seriously. It appears to have been hit by someone in a vehicle who has then attempted to prop the bike back up. It has been reported to the police and we are asking you all to please let us know if you saw anything. The motorbike was parked outside the school on the road, near the entrance to the car park.

After School Club Key Stage 1 – Next half term, the after school club that runs on Thursdays from 3:15-4:15pm will be multi-sports and will be open to children in Years R-2. The club will run for 6 weeks from Thursday 2nd November to Thursday 7th December and will cost just £18 per child for the whole six weeks. If you would like your child to take part in this club, please email the school office by Wednesday 18th October.

Sewing Helpers Wanted – Years 1 and 2 will be using their nimble fingers to produce some beautiful sewn items in class after half term. We need willing parents to come in and help out if you can on the afternoons of Tuesday 31st October, Wednesday 1st November and Thursday 2nd November. If you can help out on any of these afternoons, please either email in or speak to Mrs Rudge. Thank you in anticipation.

Injuries – Some children have been wearing inappropriate earrings in school which pose a risk of injury to themselves and others. If your child must have earrings on in school, they need to be small stud earrings only. They should be removed for PE; if a child is unable to remove them, they will be taped over. Unless they can remove the earrings themselves, children in years 2-4 must not wear them at all on Mondays due to swimming. We appreciate your cooperation.

Name Labels – There has been chaos in class recently, particularly around PE times, due to items of clothing not being labelled. Please, please make sure all items, including shoes and PE kit are clearly labelled with your child’s name, thank you. On the subject of uniform, we have had a few incidents recently of children coming into school in clothing that does not meet our uniform requirements. Please have a look at the uniform guide on the website if you are at all unsure about what is acceptable. Emails will be sent home to parents of children that are not wearing correct uniform.

Reception Phonics Books – Please keep these in your child’s book bag as we will be adding sounds regularly. You need to be doing a page a day now to catch up with the task. Any questions, please speak to Mrs Rudge.

Wolves Village Walk – Next Thursday, 12th October, Wolves class will be going for a walk around the village, looking at the area and where we go to school. We are asking for your help with this is 2 ways; we need some parents to help walk with us at 1:45pm on the day and we are looking for any maps of the local area you would be willing to lend us. If you can help with either of these, please either contact the school office or Mrs Rudge.

And finally….. A massive thank you to everyone who came along to support our MacMillan coffee and cake fundraiser. A total of £140 was raised! Well done.
